# Deciding Whether to Assess

Some Assessment Rounds add an extra step before the Assessment itself: a Decision, where you're asked to confirm whether you want to take on assessing a particular Application. Not every round uses this — check your Dashboard to see whether an Application is waiting on a Decision from you.

{% hint style="info" %}
This is different from declaring a [Conflict of Interest](/knowledge-base/assessor-help-guides/conflict-of-interest.md). A Decision is about your availability or willingness to assess; a Conflict of Interest is about impartiality. A Round can use either, both, or neither.

### Review the Decision request

If the Decision workflow is enabled for the Round, you'll be presented with the decision to assess before you can open the Assessment itself.
{% endstep %}

### Submit your decision

Depending on how your organisation has set this up, you may also be asked to fill in a short form alongside your decision — for example, to recommend an alternative Assessor if you're declining.

* If you select **Yes**, you'll proceed straight to the Assessment.
* If you select **No**, you won't be asked to assess the Application, and your Assessment record will show the status "Declined Assessment" — no further action is needed from you.
  {% endstep %}
