# Invoice Field on a Template

If an Applicant is required to upload an invoice to their Milestone, which you then want to push through to Xero to create a bill, you must ensure your Milestone Deliverables template has been set up with the "This is an invoice" field ticked (alongside the file upload field).

{% hint style="info" %}
This setting only controls the file attachment sent to Xero — it doesn't determine the payment amount, and the system doesn't check that the invoice total matches the Milestone amount. If you want the Milestone amount itself to be based on what the Applicant enters, use the **Form Field** amount type on the Milestone Template instead. See [Milestone Templates](/knowledge-base/administrator-help-guides/milestones/milestone-templates.md#choose-how-the-milestone-amount-is-determined).
{% endhint %}

Alternatively, if you have a Milestone that should not be pushed through to Xero for payment (i.e. it doesn't require an invoice upload, and therefore doesn't need to initiate a payment), then you can make that individual Milestone exempt from syncing through to Xero by updating the relevant field on the main Milestone page.
