# Contract Number column and search

Applicants, verifiers, and registered providers can now see and search by Contract Number on their own Contracts list and Milestones list — previously this was only visible to admins on the contract's individual detail page.

This was requested by organisations whose applicants manage several contracts at once (for example, caseworkers each handling multiple client applications) and need a fast way to match a contract to a specific invoice when reconciling payments.

## What changed

* The Contracts list (and its contract variation rows) now shows a **Contract Number** column, sortable like the other columns.
* The Milestones list now shows a **Contract Number** column, displaying the number of the contract the milestone belongs to (blank for milestones that aren't linked to a contract).
* The keyword search box on both lists already matched Contract Number under the hood — this was previously undiscoverable. The search placeholder text on both lists now says "or contract number" as a hint, and Milestone keyword search has been extended to actually match Contract Number (it previously did not).

## Enabling the feature

There is nothing to turn on — the column and search always appear. However, Contract Number is an optional field: it's only useful once an organisation actually populates it, either by entering it manually per contract or by enabling the **Automatic Contract Number** organisation setting.
